Bursa Uludağ University (BUU) and the World Alpagut Federation (WAF) have signed a comprehensive cooperation protocol aimed at supporting Alpagut with academic and scientific foundations, transforming the historical warrior spirit of the Turks into modern combat sports.
CULTURAL IDENTITY OF ALPAGUT TO BE SCIENTIFICALLY SUPPORTED
In his speech at the signing ceremony, BUU Vice Rector Prof. Dr. İrfan Kırıştıoğlu stated, “This protocol aims to develop sports in the light of science, provide new international opportunities for our young athletes, and strengthen the cultural identity of Alpagut with scientific foundations. Competitions of this nature will greatly benefit the promotion of both the sport and our university on social media.”
IT WILL REACH ITS DESERVED POSITION
Yunus Arabacı, a member of the Board of Directors of the World Alpagut Federation, emphasized that this sport is both a historical and cultural martial art, stressing that Turkey should take a pioneering role in this field. Arabacı said, “Alpagut is a sport rooted in Central Asia, based on discipline, ethics, and the spirit of struggle. It is crucial for Turkey to embrace this cultural heritage. We believe that our application for it to be brought under the Ministry of Sports will yield results soon. Our cooperation with BUÜ will significantly contribute to bringing this sport to the position it deserves in our country.”
5TH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP AT BUÜ
Prof. Dr. Ramiz Arabacı, Dean of the Faculty of Sports Sciences at BUU, announced that an important international event would be hosted as part of the cooperation. The 5th Alpagut World Championship, with the participation of approximately 20 countries, will be held in the university’s sports hall from December 3 to 7. Arabacı expressed that this organization will contribute to the university’s international visibility and relationships with countries in the Turkish geography.
In addition to university and federation administrators, academic and administrative staff, as well as athletes, were also present at the ceremony. The program concluded after the signing of the protocol.
